About the Designer
Jenny Housego and Asaf Ali, joined by Asaf's siblings in Srinagar, the enchanting lakeside capital of Kashmir, have united to bring forth a contemporary essence to the traditional woven and embroidered shawls originating from the Kashmir Valley. Working alongside their team of adept artisans at Kashmir Loom, their mission has been to uphold the essence of heritage while propelling its evolution. Guiding this venture is Jenny Housego, a creative powerhouse with a background in Art History and a profound affection, understanding, and reverence for textiles from India and the Middle East. Her presence breathes life into the timeless craft of shawl making at Kashmir Loom. The production process in the region remains grounded in the ethos of small family workshops, nurturing values of dignity and shared humanity. The journey of Kashmir Loom shawls commences with women delicately spinning the ethereal Pashmina yarn using traditional hand 'charka' wheels.
